Hi Lumberjocks,

I’m new to the forum but hoping to find some wisdom from others who may have done what I’m considering. I’m in the middle of building up a woodshop and have a 5/8” OSB subfloor currently installed. As my budget dwindles, I’m considering going with a 1/4” plywood on top of this subfloor.

Has anyone tried such a thin plywood for a floor? Were the results disastrous or acceptable?

(That link didn’t work – just put it in my profile.)

Think I would hold off until you can afford at least 1/2” ply , 3/4 would be better. Especially if you ever plan to have heavy tools/equip on the floor. 1/4” ply will not provide any strength to speak of. For what improvement 1/4” would make, better to just leave the osb as is.

Have your say...
