I just purchased some Japanese chisels and it recommends that I remove the lacquer coating with lacquer thinner before setting the hoops and soaking the handles in oil. I don’t have any lacquer thinner. I have some Kutzit which says that it will safely remove lacquer, but wanted to check with you guys first to get your opinion before using it on my chisels. Should I go with the Kutzit or go out and buy the lacquer thinner?
Thanks

sounds like they want you to remove the handles and soak the blades… cant see that the kutzit would do any damage to the blades. Or are the handles lacquered also???

The instuctions say to remove the lacquer from both with lacquer thinner. I think I’ll go out today and buy the lacquer thinner. These chisels were expensive and I don’t want to ruin them by using the wrong product.
Thanks
