Martin, Debbie, and that other guy, I have been chosen by the sane side (majority) of the forum to communicate to you our need to have a yearly Block Review. We have determined that most of the blocks occur during high stress, insane moments when discussing planes, saws, wood, etc that we would not have done had we taken a moment to contemplate the action of blocking our fellow LJ.
In fact, most of the members have confided to me that they don’t even remember why they blocked most of those that they have blocked. Now they’re confused as to whether or not to unblock the individual.
We can cover their confusion by mandating a Yearly Block Review. On Jan 1 all blocks are automatically rescinded and unblocked unless the blocker overtly and with fore thought reblocks the blocked. That way the fun and games can resume for another year of hurt feelings, meaness, and joy (you do realize that some LJ’s get joy out of blocking?).
We propose this be enacted immediately. The first block/unblock/reblock period to start immediately with the automated unblocking to commence on Jan 1, 2014. I speak for the majority of all LJ’s when I say we need this new feature on the website.

How does DVK know he speaks for the majority ? Never asked me. I think his suggestion makes a mockery of the concept of blocking. People can think for themselves. I recently blocked one dick. I still think he’s a dick, and my heart beat is well and truly back to normal.
Will be nice when warmer weather returns…people seem to be getting “testier” by the minute. It’s a message board, no personal interaction that should impact heart rates or any other aspect of life. But that’s just my opinion.
I am very surprised that any communication goes on, on this site, with everybody blocking each other. O wait, maybe that would be the solution. Everybody block everybody, and then sit back and relax. But that would very boring, to say the least. Come on guys be a man/woman and unblock, and lets get on with it.
Debbie, I saw you respond to one of the threads today. Soooo, I know you’re around. What do you think of this idea? Would someone flag this so we can get some feedback? Madts, can you flag this? Teejk, how about you? The safety of poopsie is at stake here… My sanity is at stake. All of you that think you’re sane…please flag this so management can read and implement my great idea.

Thanks Debbie. As you guys discuss this think of it as the Fresh Start program…or the New Beginnings program. Everyone is automatically unblocked at the beginning of the new year. Each blocker would go through their block list prior to 1/1 and “refresh” the block status….or not. To make the software easier to detect this “refresh” it would all have to be done in the month of December. Just my thoughts…

Have you considered a tiered blocking system, with a different level of block applied to the individual in question?
for instance:
Level 1: 3 month block, disagrees strongly with your opinion on how to clean sawblades etc
Level 2: 6 month lockout, called you a moron in another thread
Level 3: 1 year block, starts stalking you around, causes constant bickering, it’s ruining other peoples discussions.
Level 4: Blocked for life mofo, reserved for someone special, it’s like that gate in Harry Potter that once you go through it, you ain’t never comin’ back.
All levels would auto unblock (except the lifers) after the block ended.
