Alain, do you know the approximate freight costs from the U.S. to Brasiil?
I am thinking you should put together a large order to make up one pallet and ship by sea freight.
These guys will perk up when they realize that you can get them Brazilian woods from your side at excellent prices.

Check these prices out from Canada

Bob I don’t know how much it’s cost but surly less than the brazil value, its right than i have an access tyo some brazilian wood , but the authorities there are really brave whith wood trafic even more than other type of trade…
in the option of autorized wood with stamp of ecology and respect why not? ,sorry, sure I want… 2 times, one for me and one for you, or inverse
let’s go far away on this purpose , great great, great

Tudo Bom Alain,

I go to Brasil every once in awhile. I usually go to Sao Paulo. I have been to Belo Horizonte one time. I speak portuguese quite fluently. I have brought down some tools in the past. It can be difficult. You know, alfandega.
If you want, send me an email and we can talk further. Do you have a webcam? I also love to play with wood while down in Brasil. There are some great species. I know a few woodworkers there and we try to get together when there.

hi Marc, the “jatoba” is hard but not “as a rock”, then you have a other wood really hard with an similar appearence called paraju, less red, very heavy, closed grain, breaking nail wood, I already turn paraju, in fact i grind my tools, with it. but the result is good, and amazing.

Alain, yes those costs are in Canada Dollars ( about 7% discount over the U.S. dollar this week.)
Do you know any other wood workers that could order some tools to fill up an order with you. Maybe I could help with the assembly of such from my end.
Remember, my freind that the duty and freight are what kills the deal.

I’m guessing this is what you call paraju. Very heavy wood, probably at least twice as heavy as american walnut.

Bob , at the moment i don’t know , and mostly don’t speak with any one about my intention, but i think it’s possible to grow up the buy to have the possibility to ship at cool cost per piece, idem on the other way
the duty it’s about 60% importation taxes + 18% taxes (state) on the 160% = 188,8 %, even like that it’s half price, and will work the same , i shall verify how cost the freight (ship ) to the nearest Harbour of your town, Vancouver ? and get a listing of my saw-mill to send you (on mail) i shall joint pictures of the woods
at the moment the deal is still alive

Fellow woodjocks beware, there are a lot of scams out there where you could get taken easily. I’m not saying this is one of them but if you get a cashiers check and it goes through ok, then a week or two later you get a note from the bank saying it bounced, meanwhile you have fulfilled your part of the deal and are stuck with the bill. Be Carefull out there.

I agree…could be a scam. I believe amazon.com ships world wide. Visa/Mastercard/American Express, etc are accepted world wide.

Ya, these days it’s pretty easy to shop worldwide, your shipping costs might be a little high but it’s doable. I’m sorry…not to be a jerk…but this sounds too much like a scam to me….

I realize there are a lot of scams that happen… but has anyone happened to look through the website on Alain’s signature? let’s also not forget we’ve got that whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing here in the USA.

how about a little consideration that perhaps a fellow ‘jock is looking for assistance.

I’ll step off my soapbox and go make some more sawdust now.

OK, take your shot…I am not hiding behind a joke name..I just happen to have a sense of humor, but my real name and personal info are in my profile. If you are not an overseas scam artist I sincerely apologize, but lets be real here. People that run internet scams are thorough and ingenious. I hope I am wrong and you are just a regular guy looking for some help..but you can’t blame me or anyone else for thinking it might be a scam.

And just for the record Darryl I did go to his website before I wrote my comment…and a very nice site it is. You know who else puts together a nice website? The scam artist that keeps trying to con me into giving him my login info for my bank account. He can make a fake website like you have never seen! And the email looks like it came from my bank..even down to the web adress….

Sorry, but I guess I am getting cynical in my old age…

Gentlemen, a bank draft or wire of funds will place the money in your account before any transaction takes place . If the funds are not in the senders account then the transaction does not take place.
The fee here for this transaction is about $45.00.

A more costly method is an irrevocable letter of credit from the purchasers bank.
We use both instruments in my business and there is no risk with this system. We do not use credit cards or transfer services like western union under any circumstance.

I do business all over the world and the only time I was fooled was with Ebay . They reimbursed part of my loss as they failed to qualify the vendor.

Alain, contact Paypal as I believe there’s a way to set up an account with them, directly with your bank. No credit card needed, just a checking account routing number.

We had a congressman (I think) about a year or so ago, who got taken by one of those Nigerian scams for like $100,000.00 in taxpayers money. Some of these scam artists can use very elaborate schemes to fool you…apparently fooled this congressman. So you can see why some of the guys and gals here replied the way they did.

It’s also nice to know that you have resolved your problem and turned out to be one of the good guys!

Alain,

I am also new to this site and in no way can I represent the collective attitude of this community. I speak only for myself. This forum has allowed a framer/roofer/carpenter into the woodworkers realm, offering encouragment and support, freely sharing tips, methods, and knowledge, never been belitlled, nor felt unwelcome. Although I am far from a fine woodworking craftsman, I feel I am a competent carpenter and will gladly contribute my limited knowledge I possess to any who ask. It has taken me a while to post projects(that suck) and comment more often, due only to ecouragement and inspiration by members. This form has earned my sincere respect and gratitude. After reviewing my previous comment I understand any hurt or humilliation you have felt but offer no apoligies. I am amongst the least skilled and ranking amongst active members of this forum, and feel to ask anything involving material or $, from anyone, is a giant step exceeding boundries any member should ask. Basically your timing stunk, and raised a flag that screamed SCAM. I TRULY HOPE THIS IS NOT THE CASE. To establish friends in this crazy cyberworld trust and acceptance is usually gained over a long term commitment and an established presence to a particular forum. But I will over look my concerns and establish you a Paypal account if you will simply send the required banking and personal info. I hope my message is understood by all. I am only trying to look out for fellow LJ’s.

Aren’t the big Invicta planers made in Brazil? I would think
you might be able to buy one there.

I’m not concerned about Alain being a scammer. If one understands
how such transactions should be done it’s not a problem.

Nigerian scammers get the “mark” to send them money for
a processing fee, OR they agree to buy something like a car
or boat from you and send a bank check with “excess” funds
on it and the balance is to be given to the guy who comes
to pick it up. In selling such goods online you, the seller, just
needs to make sure the money is real before you release the
goods.
