Topic tags/keywords: question finishing refurbishing rustic

Hello,
I always get the best advice here, so I wanted to ask about ruff cut Cypress paneling. ‘I’m renting a house in Florida that is all ruff cut cypress walls, and lots of cedar woodworking. The walls are probably 20+ years old. I would like to put some luster and/or brighten up the wood. I want to bring out all the beauty of the wood. I am unfamiliar with Cypress wood, I thought about varnish, but that may become pricey, and thought perhaps there were other options? You folks are all so knowledgeable, and I learn so much from being a member! I would love to hear any Ideas.
Thank you
Gracie

In responding to a different post, dealing with rough cedar paneling, I suggested a water based acrylic that is very easy to spray. It is almost odorless, dries in 1 to 2 hours, depending on temp, and can be had in gloss, semi gloss, and matte finishes. Has a milky appearance until dry, when it becomes clear. For rough paneling, spraying would by far be the easiest way to go. If you want to know more, I’ll dig around in the shop tomorrow to find the brand.

My advice to a renter is to get written authorization from the landllord.

The brand I used was Deft “Crystal Clear Water Borne Acrylic”. I used semi gloss.
