Hello Fellow Woodworkers,

Question for all you Superior Workers.

I’m making a desk out of Melamine and I need to make a Tambour door out of the same desk material for matching purposes.

Does anyone know where I can find instructions on making a Tambour door? A video would definitely help.

Thanks Joe

This will be the first time I’ve seen a melamine tambour door. Please post pics

I hate to suggest this but I don’t think melamine is a material strong enough for tambour doors. I think you can expect the blade ends of the tambour slats to shred in the tracks in short order. Especially when you consider the length of the slats (weight) when applied to the length of most desks. I also think you will get sag in the center of the tambour & that will put more stress than normal on the blades running in the tracks.

Lee, Thanks for the advise.

I just joined this site through the suggestion of Lee Jesberger and I’m so glad that I did. Having someone to bounce ideas (even if they are a little crazy) off of is priceless and such a time saver.

I am reconsidering my choice of material for the tambour and going with a hardwood of some type.

Thanks again for your input.
