Topic tags/keywords: question

Hello fellow dustmakers! Just about everything I make is from in my head and rarely written down (if even on the back of a bar napkin!). I have been working on a lingerie chest and I have run into a design/application question in midstream and I was hoping for some of your input. When I first had the design in my head, it was to be a 7-8 drawer chest (13-14 inches deep, 18-20 inches wide, 30-36 inches high) attached to a seperate table-type piece with 20 inch high cabrio legs. But my head kept working on the design and now it was evolved into a single piece with 56 inch long legs (cabrio style at bottom 20 inches), 4 inch apron at the base of the drawers, 2 inch apron at top of drawers and a top. But a little later, I realized a issue with the use of such a piece… with the cabrio leg profile extending proud of the upper case lines by 1/2 inch on top of any baseboard molding, the body of the cabinet will sit almost 1 inch from the wall. Given the height and compact footprint of this piece, do yu guys think its a problem, or something acceptable? Any comments or suggestions? Thanks, Craven

Given the overall size of the piece, 1” from the wall does not seem excessive.

But, man, that’s a lot of lingerie!!! ;^)

seems like most furniture sits away from the wall at least baseboard distance. As long as it is something that can’t tip over you’ll be fine.

Wood burn some lines in the legs to look like fishnet stockings.

I agree…..should be no problem. We do most of our furniture pieces so they set away from the wall an inch or so.

Craven, there are some good posts on the LJ site on design.
This one by Karson is a good example.

Typically furniture that will sit against the wall had/has straight legs in the back so they snuggle up to the wall.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah, Catspaw, I have seen those pieces with straight legs in the rear and was hoping to avoid the differing designs. After actually writing my dilema down (or typing it) something came to me… I think im just going to make the top lid extend out beyond the upper case profile equally until the rear edge will extend beyond the outermost lower leg profiles, giving me the support against the wall if ever needed! Thanks again, Craven
