I have a JET dust collector with a cloth bag filter. Can this thing be retrofitted with the canister style filter?

Try here. Wynn’s 35A kits are pretty universal.

Pioneer (sold by Western Tool Supply) makes a pleated paper filter for both the Jet 1hp and and Jet 1.5 hp dust collectors. They are $80 and $100 respectively. Comes with a filter shaker too!

Would be a good idea to put a separator on it as well

Yup. Jet makes their Dust Dog conversion that’s available if you have an older drum. Alternatively, do what other people suggest and get a cartridge from Wynn. You’ll probably have to fashion a donut for it or something. I went that route for a while and put a Thien baffle internal to the drum itself, but it didn’t work all that well. I suspect it was the lack of a neutral vane or maybe I didn’t get the dimensions right.

Eventually I ordered a cyclone separtor off of ebay and just mounted the motor to the top of that. The output goes to the Wynn nano cartridge that I have.

and/or add a baffle to the drum ring:
