I decided I needed a ROS. My sheet sander is too whimpy for many applications and my belt sander is a POS. As the title indicates, I went with the Mil 6021-21 5”.
Seemed to be well regarded here on LJs, and at $59, the price was reasonable. There were a lot of sanders to compare. Bosch and Dewalt were also finalists, but the Milwaukee was a bit less expensive, longer warranty, and a longer power cord.
I can’t wait to try it out. I hope I like it.

Update 1/14/13
So I received the 6021 last week. I originally ordered from Home Depot, but received an email a day later informing me they did not have it in stock, and none of their local b&m stores had any either. For whatever reason, this was a hard tool to come by. Every place I thought to check was either out of stock or was outrageously priced. However, I did finally track one down from CPO. It was brand new and only a few bucks more than HD.

Anyway, I gave the sander a whirl today and my initial thoughts are good. This is my first ROS, so I have no basis for comparison. Nonetheless it seems to have plenty of power, and the dust collection is more than adequate. It also fits my hand very nicely, is nicely balanced, and doesn’t vibrate as much as I predicted it would. I used it for nearly an hour today and I could still actually feel my hand:)

This is one of those tools that I should have purchased a long time ago.
Thanks for all the reviews and recommendations that led me toward the 6021 and towards a ROS in general.

You will love it. I’ve had a bunch of ROS’s and this one is the best. Good purchase.
