Topic tags/keywords: stanley sweetheart level

I got this 2-vial Stanley Sweetheart level at an antique shop (I think I got it for $7). The brass plate is stamped “No 0” and it has the remnants of a Stanley decal. Overall dimensions 30” long; 3” tall; 1-1/4” wide. Anything special about this unit I should know about before clean it up? BTW, I am NOT intending for this thread to become a Level of Your Dreams thread!

Few pics:

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have one similiar to this one, however it has brass butt plates on the end, wonder if they are missing off of yours. I was going to you know actually use it, but in transport, it comes out of level, soooo unless I did something wrong, mine is just going to join my antique tool collection, not my working antique tools :/

I’m not one to listen to the experts as I totally lack to that regard but I would say that this level, renovated or not belongs on a shelf as a decorative item

many would say that removing any scar of history would depreciate the item but those same people are not in the business of renovating and restoring memories

Thanks for the comments. I just cleaned up the level and plan to use it as needed. I actually prefer to use the 3-vial wooden one I have. Either way, I get the same answer. By the way, it does not look like their is any real value as a collectible—a similar one was going for about $20 on eBay.

@TCC—It doesn’t look like my level had end caps on it. There’s no evidence of their removal, or who ever removed them, did a good job of covering up evidence of their removal.

@Moron—If I could get a replacement decal, I would be tempted to clean and polish it up and display it proudly. Lacking that, Ii’ll make it earn its keep.
