time to get my feet wet

Well my brother wants me to learn how to turn some fishing rod handles, so he picked up a Ridgid WL1200 on ebay and brought it to me. Now, i’ve never turned wood before so can someone direct me to the starting line.

I’ve watched a couple youtube videos on turning 101 but was wondereing if anyone has any specific places that would be a good start for me? Also any places that are fishing rod handle specific would be helpful.
