Hey guys,

I am looking at getting the below machines from Grizzly. They are giving me a little static right now about pricing and discounts, and before I pull the trigger I was just wondering if anyone has had any very recent purchases with Grizzly and what that experience was like. I read a review on another site of a guy who bought the G0490 this December and got an infeed table that was not flat and a fence with a deep valley. Just curious if this is what I can expect with a current purchase as opposed to some of the older reviews on this site.

G0548Z – Dust collector
G0490 – 8 inch jointer
G0457 – 14 inch band saw
G0529 – Combo spindle/disc sander

I purchased their 6” jointer in November. A week later, it went on sale for almost $100 less. I called them and they refunded the difference back to me. I was pleased enough that I immediately ordered a small drill press that they had on sale with my savings. To call me a novice is giving too much credit, but I like the tools that I have so far. Seriously considering selling my Ridgit 4512 table saw and purchasing their 1023 cabinet saw now.

WIthin the last two months I ordered a 490X and a 555LX and my experience was very positive. The jointer is perfect and the bandsaw cam with a damaged fan cover which I understand is pretty common. I called Grizzly the same day I got the machine and they sent out a replacement cover the next day. Both machines are working great, better than expected. Thinking about buying one of their table saws.

I just purchased the G0555LX bandsaw and am very happy. When it arrived I took pictures of all sides of the box. No problems at all. However, when I opened the box the motor cover had a big dent and the plastic motor fan was busted. It obviously didn’t happen during shipping. I got online with the customer service people and explained the problem, sent them the pictures, and within about 15 minutes the new parts were on their way. I called tech support because 2 of the screws that held the motor cover on were sheared off leaving some of the screw still inside. The tech guy suggested either using dental tools or an allen wrench loaded up with a few rare earth magnets to help unscrew the remaining screws. I didn’t have dental tools, but I did have a small allen wrench and magnets. I barely touched the screws and made the unscrew motion and the screws came right out.

If this is such a problem why can’t they correct it?

Very timely posting for me, I was just about to post some first impressions of the G0656P 8” jointer I got today. All I can say is “wow”, and a very VERY negative “wow”. I’ll preface my comments by saying the unit is not fully assembled and has not been powered on, but I am already thoroughly disappointed in the fit and finish of the machine. I have a G1023 saw and it in no way shape or form comes close to the quality of the saw. I have never seen rougher castings in my life. Parts are missing paint, parts that are painted are flaking off (one place has about a 2”x4” chunk of paint that is falling off). Everything (everything!) is covered in over spray. Its scary how much paint is on the cutter head…why would they paint the unit with that in there?

The table looks out of alignment as well. Its hard to explain, but the infeed table appears to be crooked by looking at how it lines up with the base. At the bottom, there is about 1/8” overhang and the top, about 1/4”. The opposite side of the table is just the opposite (1/4” at the top, 1/8” at the bottom).

It really is shocking to me that the saw I got not that long ago and this jointer are from the same company.

I’ve purchased both the G0715P 10” Hybrid Table saw and the G0555 14” bandsaw. Both arrived within about 4-5 days each in great condition. Assembly manuals were easy to follow and I had both assembled within a few hours.

I spent some time getting the table saw setup and was able to get the blade parallel to the miter slots within .001 and the slots to the fence within .002. The fence had some minor deflection to it but, not enough to be of concern to me.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchases thus far and will continue to use Grizzly. I think most people on here will agree that they are solid machines with proven reliability. In some cases, you could have some fit/finish issues but, Grizzly customer service, IMO, is top notch and will handle them quickly.

Dollar for Dollar, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better value in the market.
