Mitre Saw Backplate Measure and Support

Hello Experts,

I am hoping that you are able to help me come up with a cheap way of producing my own version of the sliding rail which has a measure on it, for producing the same lengths on different pieces of wood?

This is the kind of thing I am talking about:

I don’t have a power miter saw any longer, but if you search on this site for mter saw table or miter saw bench, you will find many examples. Also, you can go to the websites of most of the woodworking magazines and access their web store to purchase plans for many various designs to build one of these. One of the most popular designs that many folks here on LJ have built is the Norm Abrams/New Yankee Workshop design.
