Many of you may know of these but maybe not…anyway just thought I’d share. My daughter just bought here 1st house last year and is house poor so I’ve been looking out for free or inexpensive items on the web they might be interested in. I use two primary sources….One is Craigslist.com a great resource for all kinds of stuff for sale, free, or barter. I was able to get her an almost brand new washer and dryer and a number of other items that have lots of life left in them. Another great resource is Freecycle.org. I get daily emails about items that local folks are getting rid of. The idea is not to get rid of junk…but items that you can no longer use but would like to get rid of quickly. I’ve picked up antiques that needed restoration and some items…beyond restoring were turned into lumber for future projects. I have two beautiful bookmatch black walnut boards I salvaged from a table top that I’m saving for something special. I just picked up 4 six panel maple doors for free from Freecycle. I sanded a small portion of one and revealed some beautiful grain. I can’t wait to get them stripped and finished. We are finally replacing the last of the luan doors we have in our house with some nice solid maple doors and all they cost is some elbow grease. -- Bob, Carver Massachusetts, Sawdust Maker http://www.capecodbaychallenge.org |
