Topic tags/keywords: vent flowers customer service

Totally off topic here but wanted to vent/share this with LJ as I know others may need a flower service in the future.

In the past year I’ve attempted to send flowers for family members funeral services TWICE and they weren’t delivered on time. Most recently, I had ordered some flowers for a service and got a call the day after the service that the local florist’s orders did not print and they were not able to deliver on time and asked me if they wanted it delivered to the home. In this case that wasn’t acceptable so I had to call them back to cancel the order.

I told the operator what I needed and she asked where the flowers were going, I told her to a funeral home. She responded, very rudely, I need the recipients name, SIR! I told her “Wow, that was quite rude.” and then gave her the information she needed. She cancelled the order for me.

I mentioned to her that this had happened to me once before with 1800Flowers and she told me “Sir, I can’t change the past – I’m only able to resolve what I can now.” Of course, my point was not to change the past but just to let them know they weren’t delivering very well on their product.

The first time this happened was for an aunt’s funeral, I found out a few months later that the same thing happened to my cousin for the same funeral.

Just a heads up for those that may need to order flowers, the track record and customer service I’ve seen with 1800Flowers has not been acceptable.

I’ve had the same problem in the past. Apparently, the florist that is contracted to the national service has the option to reject the order it they don’t want it. Could be they are too busy, the profit on the order is not adequate, or whatever. When the order is rejected, the national service is supposed to place the order with another florist. Sometimes, there is a delay in the florist rejecting the order or the national service can’t find another florist in the are willing to take the order. When that happens, the national service is supposed to get back to the customer and refund the money. Apparently that refund part does not always happen until the customer calls and complains.

My solutions has been to avoid using the national services and locate a florist in the area and call in the order myself.

If anyone has had 100% success with the national services, I’d like to know which one. I hate it when I look like an ungrateful child when my Mom doesn’t get her flowers.

I used 1800flowers for valantines day and got very very upset. First off, My order came to me which is not where I sent it, secondly it was the wrong freakin thing. And finally it took hours to solve the problem. I was able to keep what they originally sent and they sent out the right thing immediately. So, she got two gifts for the price of one. I got irritated to the point to where I won’t use them again.

I have had good success using my local florist and having them make the arrangements with the florist in the area I’m sending to. I have had nothing but rave reviews from all the recipients. I have sent all across the US. I figure it’s their business and they will figure it out. It also allows me to give a little support to my local shop as well.

I try to avoid using remote floral services; too many people wanting a piece of the action. In this day and age, the Internet is the way to find a local florist. Just call them directly and place your order.
I usually try to fib a little bit, in order to ensure that the bouquet or arrangement is satisfactory. By telling them that you will be flying into the recipient’s town on the day you want the flowers delivered, they will realize that you will SEE what they delivered. The florist will therefore be a lot less likely to gyp you!

Sounds like quite a few others have had the same experience. With something as sensitive and important it’s sure not something I’ll take a change on again.
