Hi, everyone:
I was hoping that some of you in the UK can help me out. I have a customer in Scotland that is having difficulty in finding wood that is less that 3/4” thick (planed down) and would like to find some thinner stock for scroll sawing. I am not sure of any sources that are available in that area so if any of you can help me out, please do! Even if any of you would want to do the planing for the customer, that would be great too. Just answer here and I will pass the information along.

Thanks so much! :)

Hi Sheila. To be honest its been a while since I’ve bought any planed timber. However this link is for ‘boxmaker’s’ wood, from 3mm to 13mm thick. They’re not cheap but the quality is good and they have some exotic woods listed as well as common stuff, like Sycamore.

They’re based in Kent, England but do ship.

Thin Birch ply is widely available at places such as

http://www.wisaplywood.com/

Thats price on application. Or try googling ‘thin birch ply uk suppliers’, which is where this one popped up.
Sorry but other than the sort of info above I’m not into product sourcing for customers

Thank you Martyn. That will help a lot. I don’t know if the cost is an issue, as long as the price is ‘reasonable.’ I think that it is a matter of him not having the means or a source to obtain it. This will help tremendously, I think. Thanks so much!

In addition. Birch ply up to 6.5mm thick from

http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/birch_plywood.html

got this by googling ‘birch plywood craft supplies uk’ (page two, first entry)

Not sure if this is practical for your customer Sheila but with the aid of my 14” bandsaw riser kit optional for wider the 6” (15.24CM) boards and a 13” (33.02CM) planer he/she would be able to resaw to the thickness and finish it smooth with the planer.
