Topic tags/keywords: rockler dovetail jig router gift dovetail

Just received a Rockler Dovetail jig. And I need help setting up my Christmas present!
There instructions could be a little better.
The two minute video glosses over a lot of the details I would love to have.
I did a couple of searches on this site and have not found what I am looking for. Lots of people have bought better jigs and don’t seem to think much of this one.

Fairly new woodworker so be kind.

My first dovetail jig was a ShopFox, and I’m sure the Rockler is a better jig than that (I now have a Leigh D24 Super).

I can’t help you with specifics on the Rockler (and am at work [shhh, don’t tell anyone], so don’t want to watch the video), but I can tell you that the thing that got me over the fear of dovetail jigs was getting some pine (reasonably soft wood, doesn’t dull bits much, cheap) and making a bunch of dovetails. Only by playing with the mechanics of how the jig actually worked was I able to get over the “wait, what does this lever do?” paralysis.

That, and always waiting ‘til the router bit completely stopped before removing anything.
