Topic tags/keywords: ebony

Saw this interesting post on Boston area CL this morning.

Rare ebony logs from Cuttyhunk, MA shipwreck.

http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/mat/3448245840.html

I have no idea if $200-$600 for a log of ebony is a good price or not, but if anyone is in the area and interested I thought I’d share.

The lumber store I used to buy from sold Ebony at $87/boardfoot. I’d say that’s a good deal for those logs if they are ebony.

Now that’s a rare CL listing…one log would be a cool supply to have on hand.

I would buy them all if they were ebony. The prices are very good.

However, ebony has a tendency to check very badly if not stored and dried carefully.

One doesn’t know until it is cut up.
