I have some 1.5” cherry I would like to join with pocket screws. It looks like there are a couple options:

Use coarse thread 2.5” screws so that the screw is centered but not ideal because of the threads.

Use 1.5” fine thread screws which will not be as strong of a joint.

Has anyone done either of the above or have any thoughts?

All I know is I tried coarse thread on Cherry and it split the wood easily.
A fine thread screw should be fine to use on anything that is appropriate for pocket screwing.
For more strength, you should pre-dill/countersink and use deck screws or something.

Have your say...
