Topic tags/keywords: question veneering

I’ve been very interested in learning more about veneering for years. Could someone point me in a good direction for a beginner, specifically down the path of eventually making a violin for my son.

thanks and have a great day….......... Dug

I’ve done a lot of flat veenering, but never any curved surfaces. i use vacuum veneering and it does lend itself to doing curved items. www.joewoodworker.com has some info on veneering and also the plans to make your own vacuum veneer setup. There are other commercial sites also. I’ve been doing some veneering for my kitchen remodel, but haven’t posted anything yet.

Check lumberjocks search for veneer and see what you hit. Or send me a private e-mail with your phone number and I’ll give you a call.

i veneer alot, feel free to contact me and i’ll try and answer any questions. karson is right about joewoodworker.com. it’s a great site. it has alot of good and info, tools for veneering and veneer itself. i buy most of the veneer i use from him, especially the designer veneers, his quality and prices are hard to beat.

And another vote for joe woodworker. AND we have a member who also sells veneer. -Ron Fritz is his name.
I have bought from both and actually the quality is about equal, but Ron’s prices are better.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions also.

Violins are not veneered. Violins for the most part are carved. For some violin woods, kits, books and plans try

www.stewmac.com
www.internationalluthiers.com
www.allenguitar.com/supply
www.northridgehardwoods.com
www.13thfret.com/luthiers.shtml
www.grizzly.com/outlet/category.aspx?key=235
www.alliedlutherie.com/
www.pioneervalleyluthier.com/
www.thefiddleshop.net

A VERY interesting project, requires very few power tools but some specialized hand tools. Not easy, but once you understand the process and the reasons why its not as hard as it looks.
