Anyone out there have a S & W Model 629, 8 3/8” barrel?

I am making a pistol box for my father in law for Christmas (I know, nothing like waiting till the last minute). I need the outline of the pistol so I can cut the foam. I have tried going to the local places (Academy, Bass Pro Shop, etc) and can’t find this exact pistol.

I am sure I could find one in Houston, but figured I would reach out to all of you, first. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Or use your own digital camera and take an image. Blow it up on your PC to fit the actual gun, and then trace it and there you have it.

You may already have done this but if you go to http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_629, they have the specifications of the S&W 629. You already know the barrel length, so there might be enough information there to cut the foam to size and shape. Good luck!

Image like this. FWIW, I have a 686.

Your 629, assuming right barrel length:

Chris, call gun ranges in your area. One of them will have that gun in their rental fleet. Also, a locally owned gun shop will help you. If you explain what you’re doing and why, a non-chain gun store would gladly let you hold one and trace its outline.

As an alternative, go to one of the S&W forums (there are several) and make your request. Someone in Houston will have one and gladly help you out.

Great project. Your dad will love it.

Thank you all very much for your responses. Mike, unfortunately, it’s the 8 3/8” barrel, but I appreciate it.

I did gather enough information to at least build the box. He has two of these revolves, so, I was making the box big enough to house both of them. Needless to say, the box looks like a small brief case, haha.

Chris,
do the search. It shows so many options that I am sure that you can find what you need.
