Changing bits above table with bosch 1617

So when I got this router, my understanding was that with the original base, I would be able to make above table bit changes. For some reason, its not raising high enough. Any ideas? Also, my initial thinking for buying this router for my router table was that I wouldn’t need to reach under to change the height. So far it appears that to adjust the hight from above the table, i first need to go under the table to un-do the clip.

Is there anything im missing?


P.S; I’m thinking of building my own router lift

Not above table bit changes, just above table height change once you unlock the base.

A diy lift is a nice option.

AFAIK there are only a couple of routers that have collets that raise high enough above the table to change bits topside without special wrenches or extenders…Freud FT3000 and both Tritons. If there are others, I’m not aware of them, so someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

With the Bosch you can change the height adjustment from topside, but will need a special bent wrench to get at the collet nut from above.
