Very interesting chart. My grandkids are now in The Woodlands, TX. That’s not good but it could be worse.

THink it may be bunk…. trying to imaging that the Washington DC public schools are really tops in the nation (only other grade of A along with Calif.) on science… or education at all is hard to believe. THat and Oregon being in solid F territory while “Retro 1950’s era” teaching intelligent design Kansas, is a B. ALong with historically underperforming Louisiana and Arkansas

There is some weird standard being applied to get this map.

Guys, it’s a chart with numbers. Anytime you have a chart with numbers it is correct. Someone took the time to dredge up the data and then draw the picture and then place the numbers. Who would take the time to do that unless they were correct and solid and right?

Texas has made huge cuts in education. Governater Hair has thought that this is the best way to solve the budget crisis. Could be one of the reasons that TX. got a C

I agree with DKV – it has to be right

All that being said…it looks like if you inverted the colors, it’d be right….

Thanks dak, I always go with the first one I find and then swear by it. Kind of like the way we are raised as kids. Whatever we are first told must be right. Besides, how could our parents be wrong?

This is actually a study of the programs that are being taught, not how well the students do in those programs.

Jeff, now it makes TOTAL sense. I always knew California kids were lazy and deep south kids were beat to get good grades. Makes total, total sense. Wow, I’m starting to understand stats and how they apply to different parts of the US and how child rearing in different parts of the US differ.

Every state has to give a test but they get to make up their own. Maine has such a tough one that they’ve had to modify it three times just to make it fair enough so they can get an accurate reading. I was a science teacher. I happen to know that the one from SC is so poorly done it was posted in our teacher’s room as a joke. Some of the questions were so incorrectly asked they were funny. Some had multiple possible answers. Maine also tests all students. Many states eliminate those with learning disabilities. Some states also have a fill in the dots test. Other states, at great correcting expense, have some essay questions. Fill in the dot tests eliminate those students who can’t write well. I will tell you that if you ask any teacher, nobody is getting it right with these tests. It’s just stuff left from NCLB (no child left behind).

We do know that some states give easier tests so the governors can boast good test scores. What should be paid attention to is the year over year improvement.

Dakremer, how derogatory was I? Explain so I know the level of flagellation and chastisement I should inflict upon myself.

Ha, If I wanted to be political I would have included a blue/red political map. You think anyone remembers what they were from the election? I think most of the red ones were confederate.

(I did it again didn’t I?)
