A couple hours ago I saw Marc Spagnuolo at Sams Club, which I thought was pretty cool. I’m a fan of his videos and when I pointed him out to my wife she said, “go say hello.” I didn’t.
I figure a guy out at Sams with his wife and baby has better things to do than talk to some shmuck.
What do you think?

I don’t know Marc, and obviously can’t speak for him. His audience is pretty specific to woodworkers and I would assume that he isn’t overwhelmed with autograph seekers when out and about. I would think that he wouldn’t mind a quick hello and a voice of appreciation for the work that he does. After all, it is “shmucks” like us that he caters to :)

I don’t think that it wood have been impolite, to just say hello and that you like his videos. Trying to engage him in a lengthy conversation could be considered rude. Even if he didn’t mind, the wifey may have. Certainly, the way you handled it was “No harm, No foul”!

Hey…. he puts his britches on one leg at a time, just like you and I do…..nothing special about him that I can see…...he just makes dust and chips and videos….if it wasn’t for “smucks like us” there wouldn’t be any wood projects built…..

I think it has to do with where you meet someone of notoriety, If there trying to have a quite dinner some where maybe I wouldn’t say hi but at Sams club I don’t see the harm in saying a quick hello Enjoy your show and then let them go. Marc seems like real people from the couple of shows I’ve seen of his. BTW if you see me in Sams club
Don’t say hi, Because it’s an impostor I’m not a member Ha ha.

Austons, you seem to be lacking self esteem. Why wouldn’t you say hello? He probably loves being recognized. Don’t forget Rick’s pants point…

Howdy Austons,

I’d walk right up to him and say “Marc, I’d like like to shake your hand. You have taught me a lot. Thank you.” from that point on, any conversation is up to him. I agree with the other gents. He’d probably enjoy the exchange.

Thanks for your responses. I was actually pretty ok with how things went or rather didn’t at the time. I just got to thinking about it afterwards and wanted to see what other opinions there might be.

I agree with what Jim says.
If he was at dinner, romancing his wife then no.
What’s sams club?

Mike, Sam’s club is a retail store owned by Walmart. It requires a membership card in order to shop there. They have discounted items. So this chance meeting would not be much different than running into a jock at a grocery store.

next time let the wife ask his wife
if you can say hello

while they are goo goo’ing over the new baby

you and mark
can do all the shopping together

just don’t forget them
when the trucks are loaded

you could wind up being his new shop assistant
in a new series
