Topic tags/keywords: mortiser mortising machine craftsman sears mortising

Sorry to flood you guys with posts, but I found this:

It’s a hollow chisel mortising machine. It’s normally $300 but it’s on sale for $150. After pricing benchtop mortisers the price on this one caught my eye. I’ve already ruled out the Harbor Freight mortiser after seeing it at the store.

Is this one any good? I looked in the reviews first and couldn’t find it. I’m thinking of picking it up for myself if it’s a good machine. It seems like a good price on it.

For me, Craftsman power tools are hit or miss. Some are quite good, some aren’t.

It is the lower part, the fences and clamps and stuff
that makes a benchtop chisel mortiser good or bad.

My opinion of Craftsman these days is its generally good
value for the money, but corners are cut on most
models and across the Craftsman range you can
see the symptoms.

Sears also launches some pretty cool feature concepts
in power tools and especially in hand tools.

I’d say keep your eyes out for a used unit with
more robust fence and clamp setup.
