Morning,

I have read several times that green lumber is easier to turn and work with (for some projects). I was wondering where you would even find green lumber? I live in Seattle. I was talking to some guy the other day down in Astoria and he was talking about how he got lumber directly from loggers, although I am not even sure how I would go about doing that.

Thanks!
David.

Check with your local arborist.

I live in South Dakota and all we have here are broad leaf trees. I get my green wood from actual local trees. Often times I will see a tree tech cutting trees from around power lines and such and they are always willing to lob me off a piece or two. I would think you would have a glut of free wood on the coast! Any jobs there?

As Dennis and Christopher mentioned, the arborist or Tree Techs can probably steer you in the right direction. Usually just driving around town, you can find workmen trimming trees- just ask them if you can get a couple of pieces. They will probably even help you load them!

Ahhh excellent, didn’t think of arbourists. Great idea, I will give it a whirl.

Jobs in Seattle are pretty plentiful I think. Definately are in software engineering anyway :)

Good luck!
David.

I got some fresh cut burly maple from our city park.

I seen them cutting a tree, & the next morning, I caught them before they hauled it away.

They dumped a pickup load in my backyard.

This isn’t meant as endorsement, but after a tornado hit a town in the neighboring county, there was a lot of green wood free for the taking. I didn’t get any but storms produce a lot of green timber.
