Hey I just came across an eBay listing for a HUGE LOAD of mesquite pieces. They are being sold as firewood/barbecue wood, but I see some massive potential for some nice little project pieces.

Last month I picked up two pieces of crotch mesquite, approx. 5bf each, but they were bookmatched. I happily paid $200 for the pair, which are destined for my Moby Plank project (see blog.)

This looks like some serious turning stock. Wish I had a lathe…

Lane, when mesquite is stacked for firewood, it’s usually because it’s full of wood borers. Unless it’s cut in the winter, the bugs will be in it within a couple of days.

MESQUTIE ANYONE??? Thanks for the web site. I just signed up and gave a little info. I would hate to burn if someone can use it and save us time. This site is new, and Im checking it out. I also seen where someone replied that you need to cut in winter, I didnt know that. Hmmm. Again, thanks for your insite on our pain. Have a great day.
