Topic tags/keywords: classes woodworking making boxes

hello everyone. This is my first day as a member here at lumberjocks. I have to say that there a lot of beautiful projects and very talented woodworkers.

I also want to take this time to ask if anyone know of a place near wichita, kansas where i can take some woodworking classes or something like that. i would really appreciate any help. thank you very much, and I’m looking forward to continue to be inspired by the quality work i see on this site.

A former colleague of mine, some 20+ years ago, moved from Wichita and said he used to sit in and later be a teaching assistant in local high school shop classes just to learn, get experience on machines, and help out. Things have changed a lot so I cannot tell you if this is still possible today.

When I lived in Illinois the Jr. college had evening shop classes, again, many years ago.

I don’t know if either of these options are available today but it doesn’t hurt to check.

You might also find some good DVDs from some of the woodworking magazines; i.e. Wood Smith comes to mind!

Check the local community colleges. Also several vocational high schools (at least in my area) will allow adults to take classes if there is room.

Wichita is big enough that there should be some woodworking group that holds classes. Local internet search should find them. Otherwise, you’ve come to the right place to ask questions.
