My opinion:
Saturday Night Live sucks.
I grew up 70’s-80’s, with John, Bill, Gilda, Jane, Lorraine, Chevy, Dan, Garrett, etc. etc.
The show blows now.

It’s the same thing with cartoons. I guess having 1000 cable channels forces the studios to crank out a huge quantity of shows with no focus on quality.

Welcome to middle age Steve. We are reaching that magic time where tv shows, music, and movies are not made like the good ole days…

Agree.
I watch King of the Hill, American Dad, I like those two, but they are ALL repeats, still, not much better on.
I remember when I was a kid, my sister would watch a cartoon in the 70”s “Wait Till Your Father Get’s Home”,
remember that one?

High volume, low quality is the key point in today’s TV and to some extent movie market. Sport are not far behind due to the quantity of advertisers trying to a piece of the action every little break has it’s own sponser and the final message is getting lost in the noise!

Animainiacs … remember them?
Tom and Jerry
Daffy Duck
Bugs Bunny
The Road Runner
The Tasmanian Devil

Funny you mention Wait until your father gets home. That theme song would stick in my head, every now and again. In the 90s, I thought I was losing my mind because I could not find one person who remembered that show. I find that I am a strange breed at times because the shows I have the most fondness for were made before I was born. The Twilight Zone, Looney Tunes, old Walter Lantz cartoons. I would watch comedy classics at night and became well versed on Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges. My sense of humor has always been a little warped. My family blames it on insanity. I blame it on the Monkees :)

I guess I am in the minority. SNL still amuses me. The loss of Andy Samburg and Kristin Wiig sucks. However, there are still some funny people…Sudakis, and Hader. I really like to see who they have for the musical guests. There is little doubt whoever they book is either a legend, a star, or a real up and coming act. So I do like that about it. It was good back when too, but I think they still have some talent.

I think SNL has gotten better, but has always sucked. I like the snarkey weekend update stuff, and the Lazy Island crew’s digital shorts are awesome. I watch VERY little TV though. Workaholics, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, and The Walking Dead are about all I can tolerate.

Wild Kingdom, I always felt sorry for Jim -

Marlin Perkins – The Cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. It’s strong claws are capable of eviscerating a Rhino. My partner Jim is going to demonstrate the animal’s intense temperament by pulling on its tail…

SNL… watch the first five minutes, then turn it off. The opening sketch is usually pretty good, especially during Presidential election years.

i agree with texas that the first few minutes is good, but after that all i really care to watch is the weekend update. I figure now when they have a good digital short or sketch it will be all over youtube or facebook and i’ll catch it there

I still like Weekend Update. If I can stay awake that long. Usually miss it and wake up to paid programming.
