I was in my shop earlier and my 6 year old friend & neighbor came by to get some scrap wood that’s child-safe. He asked me to make a custom boat and went into details on the specs. It has to be this wide but not TOO wide and long, but not TOO long, and the sail has to be made out of a triangular block. I asked him if he was going to be around tomorrow, but he had to run off ‘cuz his mom was calling him. He shouted back to me, ‘Just make my boat, OK?’

I have a steady stream of adults that do this! They figure since ” you’re so fast” that it must be easy.

I’m woodworking now that I am retired for fun and self-satisfaction. But as a architect for nearly 50 years I had a lot of clients with the same type of criteria for their designs
