Topic tags/keywords: powermatic jointer

I’ve been looking and looking for an 8 inch jointer. I wanted a standard machine but got tired of searching to no avail so I broke down and bought a Cadillac. I’m glad I did. Got the mobile base also. Got it in Delaware during Powermatic’s 15% off sale so I saved a little. There is no sales tax in Delaware. It is wonderful

and I don’t know how I’ve done without a big jointer. Maybe a little over zealous but I flattened everything in my shop last night including all the scrap firewood! I’m going to relocate the on/off switch so its lower and the machine can hide behind the table saw. This machine gets stock so flat that it “sticks” to the outfeed table! I know this is t the correct forum so it’s obvious I’m bragging when I use it and get better seasoned with it, I will post a review. Thanks guys for looking. I appreciate evey single person and opinion on this site.

I get the same results from my ‘50’s vintage PM60 : )
Boards stick to the outfeed table like a magnet (almost) LOL : )
Congrats on your dream machine !

Lucky you. I too have been searching for a used 8” jointer but nothing yet. I have considered either a Jet or Grizzly because of the cost factor, if I end up buying new. Any feedback on these two jointers would be appriceated. Thanks Doug

fisherdoug09, I recommend not going cheap on your jointer. Especially if you get a parrallelogram style jointer. I just recently ordered the Grizzly G0513X2 17” Bandsaw and the G0490X 8” Parallelogram jointer. The bandsaw resaws like a champ and I am very pleased with it (upgraded the blade to a TimberWolf). The jointer has been one heartache after another. Nothing on the jointer is easy to adjust. It is very poorly designed (literally from ground up). After the third defective part I have thrown my hands in the air and have decided to return it for a refund. If they don’t agree to refund me the shipping fees (coming and going) and waive the restocking fee, I will lose over $400 dollars.

Today is the last day of the Powermatic 15% off sale so I went ahead and ordered the PJ-882HH. I have done serious jointer research the past few days and have focused on these critical points: 1) easy motor adjustment 2) how the adjustment levers attach to the tables 3) easy fence adjustment 4) easy parrallelogram adjustment. In my opinion, Grizzly misses the mark miserably in these areas and Powermatic excels.

Have your say...
