Moments ago (9:30 local time), the balloon launched successfully, and Felix Baumgartner began the ascent to his world record skydive from 120,000’. Follow it live at: http://www.redbullstratos.com/live/ -- My broker promised me he would treat my money as if it were his own. Trouble is, he did. |

Well, I had to leave about an hour into the flight. Tried recording it, but lost the satellite signal, right at the critical moment (naturally). Did it seem to anybody else that Felix was kind of out of it? It took him forever to respond to the communications, and he sounded disoriented and groggy the whole way up. -- My broker promised me he would treat my money as if it were his own. Trouble is, he did. |

He did seem a little “out of it” as you said. It seems to me that he also pulled the ‘shute a tad early and didn’t achieve the record for the “longest” freefall. It did make me want to jump again. However, I’ll keep the altitude low enough NOT to steal his record!!! -- Randy-- I may not be good...but I am slow! |

I do believe he was a little groggy. In fact I thought I heard him at one point say he was getting dizzy and felt like he was going to pass out. It was hard to make out what he was saying. -- Your freedom to be you, includes my freedom to be free from you. |

I heard those comments also. The mission control folks really did not sound like they had their own act together very well either. I heard one of the controllers trying to direct the guy to turn his parachute by telling the guy over and over, ”...the wind is from the East, the wind is from the East, the wind is from the East…” without realizing that this guy apparently did NOT have a compass on his suit. This controller then, once he finally realized this, tried to give him some landmarks to determine where the wind was blowing from, …”the wind is blowing from the ridge, the wind is blowing from the ridge,... NO,... the wind is blowing toward the ridge, the wind is blowing toward the ridge…” I don’t know if anyone else has had that kind of luck, but I broke one of my landing gear (left ankle) landing my hang glider in such a manner once. NOT fun… -- HorizontalMike -- "Woodpeckers understand..." |

Thanks for the link. Watched the whole thing. That guy has gotta have guts or a death wish. I get squiggly on a ladder. Can’t EVEN imagine jumpin’ out of anything. -- bill@magraphics.us |

“Did it seem to anybody else that Felix was kind of out of it? “ I think that might be a prerequisite for jumping out of a balloon at 127,000 feet. -- Visualize whirled peas |

I’ve only jumped once. Freefall is amazing and being under canopy is awe inspiring!!! Can’t wait to do it again and again and again. -- Randy-- I may not be good...but I am slow! |
