Hi everyone
I just bought a used JDS Multi-Router but it doesn’t have any templates, I bought it from a widow of a freind. So can the Multi-router be used free hand or do I have to buy some templates? I used the multi-router a few times while my buddie was alive, but I only made mortises free hand, I don’t recall how he made the tenons. I’m making shutters and all the mortises and tenons will be the same size ( 3/8 – 1 1/2).

I typically don’t use the tenon templates unless I’m making chairs. I make loose tenons by ripping a pc of wood and rounding the sides to fit the mortise. I make a long stick then cut the tenon to length.

If you want the templates call JDS or you might try eagle American tools in Pasadena ca. Talk to Jesse.

Angled shutter mortises need a template with these
sorts of jigs. You can probably adapt matchmaker
templates or just make an angled “ladder” out of wood
scraps glued to a backer. You just need something
to restrict the movement of the stylus as you cut.

I mortise both pieces and then just make floating tenons for them. Very fast and accurate.
