Came up with this idea cleaning the shop yesterday and coming across some pen blanks (yellowheart and mahogany) I’d bought to use for small inlay work. The end grain parts are being mounted on some bubinga I had laying around. Whatcha all think?

Welcome to Lumberjocks John,
Great project, if they don’t work for coasters, they’ll make great personal cutting boards.
Keep it up, can’t tell you how many projects come up while cleaning the shop.

Not bad at all. I am using yellowheart for the first time in a bandsaw box. I like it and especially like the wonderful golden yellow color you get out of it with a grain enhancer. It seems to really go well with darker woods, as you demonstrate here.

Thanks guys! I’m panning to do some more. The next batch I’m thinking using purpleheart and maple on top of black walnut.
