Hope someone who understands these infernal machines can advise me. It’s probably a simple fix. I’m just so very inept, though.

Within the last couple of days, I’ve lost the automatic spell check. It used to underline misspelled words with a squiggly red line and right clicking on it would bring down alternatives. Now, that’s gone in every text operation, no matter whether I’m on line or off line.

I can’t think of any application or change I’ve initiated that would cause this. I’m baffled.

I use Chrome….if that makes a difference. I went to the settings in chrome and spell check was checked as being on. Went through all the help files, too. Nothing they suggested seems to help.
All windows help does is offer help with windows mail, which I don’t use.

Can anyone help…..PLEEEZE?

Your setup probably got changed on a recent update.

try this:
http://blogmines.com/blog/2011/09/21/how-to-enable-spell-check-in-google-chrome/

it is from last year…don’t know if the menus have changed since…I don’t have chrome on this computer to check. If that doesn’t work for you, let me know and I’ll fire up chrome on the windoze laptop and check it out.

Thanks Joe. Already tried that through Chrome.
Paul, sounds like a Chrome issue, doesn’t it?
I’ll try IE and see if it makes a difference.

Paul, I just figured it out on mine. I had to go to advanced settings and un check the box that states “Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors”. Mine now works as before. I think in my case if that box is checked i disables the built in spell checker that’s provided by google.
Have absolutely no idea how that box got checked.

Thanks Gene, mine works now too. Chrome just did a little upgrade that I’m sure you noticed. It made a few changes visible on the home screen. I guess that the spell check glitch was part of that.

Click on the one that’s right. Otherwise just punt.
