Topic tags/keywords: podcast video

One of my woodworking buddies from a past class keeps telling me I should look into doing a podcast or videos for my woodworking things. I like to teach, but doing classes at Woodcraft or Rockler is just too much work for to little pay.

I was thinking the podcast idea might be fun. I do like to teach and have no inhibition about videoing my mistakes and posting them as I go. I think mistakes are sometimes the best way to learn, so in all likelihood, I would not edit them out.

So what does a person need to do quick videos to post on a site like this? And how hard is it to learn to do? I’m not the most sophisticated electronics person alive (just a look at my Sketchup blog, will be proof of this!), but if it’s not too technical I can probably manage.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Betsy,

I can’t speak about the podcasting element, but I have done a couple videos (here on LumberJocks) and it was pretty easy.

I used my digital camera to record the video, and I did some minor editing (title screens, transitions) using Windows Media Player. I then uploaded them to the web. You can easily upload them to YouTube, but I found Blip to be a little nicer looking. I think the limit is 100MB for free uploading, but for a fee I’m sure you could upgrade.

I’d contact people like Marc Spagnuolo or Kaleo Kala (who are both here on LumberJocks), who do regular (or semi-regular) video podcasts.

Keep us posted!

I have to agree Betsy that mistakes have always been a key to learning, for me at least. I’m not sure where you get all your enery but this is a pretty awesome thing to offer us.
