I am almost certain to buy TS2500ci Scheppach Table Saw. The machine has 1.4m sliding table & rail as optional accessories. I live in Malaysia and there aren’t many models/makes to choose from.

I went to the store and have looked at the displayed machine. Since the small showroom is so cramped with various machine tools, I just managed to check the cast iron table bed’s flatness using a steel ruler. Seems to be OK. The table bed/tabletop is not ground to ”mirror finish” as always described by many manufacturers of other makes like Powermatic, Grizzly, Delta, General etc as shown in the product desciptions.

My question : Does ground to ”mirror finish” really matter ?
Any comment is welcomed, and thank you very much.

I think flatness, squareness to fences and parallel to mitre slots is far more important than a “mirror finish” on the surface of the table. The advantage of a glossy surface might be easier sliding, but if you are using a crosscut sled that would be negated anyway. The mirror finish on chisels or similar hand tools is an indication of the sharpness and flatness of the tool, a table saw table probably does not need to be that smooth. I’ve not yet seen a table saw with a mirror finish.

I think that the mirror finsh is to make them look shiny, there is probably no need to have one. I keep my table waxed and the wood slides great.

As long as the top is flat and smooth the general appearance (mirror finish) doesn’t matter.

If you want a mirror finish you can do the job after you get the saw.

Hi woodworm;

Actually, if the top has a mirror finish, I wouldn’t buy it. With skylights in my shop, the mirror finish would blind me for a good bit of the day.

As has been mentioned, as long as it flat and a quality machine, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Thank you Lee.
I hope with the purchase of this saw, I would not post “Table Saw Box” as my latest project.
I’ve one more box to show, but I will wait …until all those boxes fade away from your memory.
Ha ha ha…
Thanks again Lee.
