that came in the mail this morning. Won both on ebay, but that is another story. Opened both packages this morning to find
A #6 with “SAVAGE” stamped on the iron. 17.5” long, by 2-3/4” wide. handle issiues, found a small crack ( will not be a problem) but looks savable.
The little red-nosed block plane. It is a bit of a mystery tool. The knob looks like a Sargent/ American Boy sort of thing. The rear deck has “MADEINUSA” engraved into it, not cast.
The chipbreaker for the number six is also different..
Savage is on the left, a Stanley about the same size on the right. Bolt from the Savage will not fit into the Stanley, too big. Frog looks like an early Union type..
Both irons have “different” holes in them, the Savage is six-sided..
and the block plane’s has a keyhole, of sorts..
Worked on these two for awhile today, then put them back together, easier to keep track of all them parts. a Looksee at where I’m at?
Yep, Japanning is about 10% left on the planes. another view?
Looks like I’m getting to the bottom of things? Oh, and that engraved deck on the block plane?
Well, that’s enough, for now, stay tuned…
