making a spindle sander from old 1/4 horse motor

Is this an oscillating spindle sander?

I do have a spare motor sitting around that is doing nothing but taking up space!

oldnovice, the plan I posted doesn’t oscillate, it’s just your basic spindle sander from 1990 or so. I have a spare motor sitting around too and have been thinking of building one.

The motor I have is a old 1/2HP servo motor that is reversible, variable speed, an variable run up/run down speed. It’s a little overkill for this but what the h… its not doing anything anyway.

The other application I had in mind was a rotating finish table for spray finishing and maybe it can do both!
