Listings like these make me wonder where people get their price information. This ad has 3 used tools listed in nice condition, and each one is near the original MSRP or higher. They did a nice job with the listing and pics, just not the pricing.

Yep. Insane.
My local CL is filled with those kinds of “deals”.
However, all last week the were tons of GREAT bargains to be had.
14” Delta BS for $100 (only needed a switch).
Jet TS with Beismeyer fence and cast iron router table ext for $450
6” Grizzly jointer $150
Shop Fox Mortiser $75
etc

I went after the jointer and mortiser, but I was too slow.

Those are the deals that keep me checking our CL periodically. The goods news is that the deals go both ways.

Believe or not, this gem has been on our CL for months (rolling eyes sarcastically!):
http://rochester.craigslist.org/tls/3226189475.html
It is in nice shape, but $500 for a 43” long Taiwanese HF 6” jointer clone?!

There’s also a slightly used Ryobi RTS10 for $180, that you can buy it new for $129 regularly at HD…less w/coupon!

Unfortunately, I think there are people gullible enough to believe that if someone is selling it on CL, it must be a good deal.

a problem with Ebay also…I always keep Amazon open when bidding to see what “new in box” costs vs, used/condition unknown/shipping costs. Was burned early on before I started doing that but now I find some true bargains.

For the biggest part we can thank all the TV shows, Storage Wars, Auction Hunters, American Pickers, and so on. I went and looked at a older craftsman scroll saw for a friend, this thing was SHOT, the guy says” I only used it about three times”, he wanted 65 bucks for it, I told him it would cost 50 in parts to get it usable, I think I made him mad when I offered $15

KS- I know what yer sayin. Bozos advertise the same product, at the same ridiculous price for months….if not years.
The other thing I don’t get is morons that make no attempt to make their product presentable. A couple weeks ago I saw a table saw being sold, and the seller posted a pic of the TS with a trashbag in front of it, and a cooler on top of it. The seller stated “the fence is included, but not pictured. I’ll try to find it upon sale”.
Give me a f’in break! This numbskull thought it would be smarter to find the fence AFTER/IF he sells the TS. LOL.
Even better the seller stated that “the saw has been well maintained”. LOL.

LOL….we’ve got to stop finding ways of protecting those who Darwin predicted wouldn’t make it….they’ve figured out how to breed! ;-)

Here’s one of my favorites: I wonder which of the hundreds of models of table saw that Sears has sold since their inception this could be? No pic, no model, no useful details. http://rochester.craigslist.org/tls/3288994333.html

Title:
“Craftsman Table Saw – $150 (Penfield)”

Description:
“Sears/Craftsman table saw w/ wheels, guides and extra blade”

I just love CL and consider myself addicted :). I’ve made the best deals out there but I agree some people are either ignorant themselves or just simply looking to take advantage if the ignorant. I send them emails sometimes trying to educate them but I think that is just a waste of my time. But still great deals to be had and I have sold a lot on CL also.

I really want to get a 13in planer and checked the Ridgid new and it is 399 at my local HD. Is the lifetime warranty transferable? For 400 bucks I think it is the best bang for the buck. Had one 5-6 years ago and have missed it ever since. Getting the Woodmaster 25in out and setting it up is a real pain when you just need to do a few pieces.

Anybody know how long Ridgid has had their latest model planer out ?
A guy on CL has the original style (2 knife) for sale, NIB,claims he’s had it in storage for only six months ?
Thanks

Craigslist…gotta love it.

I’ve gotten a few great deals on Craigslist, but like you’ve shown here, some people just figure to throw anything up there and keep trying to get some ridiculous price for it.

Locally, there is a guy who has been trying to sell “antique” wooden clamps for about a year or so (same ones) for something like 20 times their value. He keeps trying, though.

BTW, I scarfed up that exact same Ridgid jointer a few months ago so new it still had some of the cosmoline on it. Damn, that thing works great. Paid $200 for it.
