The state of hawaii issued another rfp for koa timber this last month. This will make 3 I have witnessed in about 16 years working wood.If there is ever a wonder why there isnt much koa lumber available the systems here are the reason.I my self cant even afford it anymore out of control.

I have been told by the so called self proclaimed”professionals” that I do not understand the koa forest. Here in hawaii they use small 2 or 3 man crews to harvest and it takes years. The lumber goes to a few large companies and the scraps are sold locally. The people in charge are all connected to the companies running the jobs one big happy family.

Are these systems allowed on the mainland here in hawaii if you have money and connections laws can be bent very easily and politions bought.

Funny part is the state is pushing this as a sustainable system go figure.I myself stay out of these bids now dangerous to bid on work in this state gives watch your back a whole new meaning.

Sad. Would love to have some, but won’t pay their prices. I assumed it was cheap for you.

I bought several large chuncks of High Curly KOA for turning. I guess I should save it and the prices will go sky high. Have several 12×12x6 to 8×8x5 pieces to turn
