Topic tags/keywords: finishing refurbishing question

I recently moved and have some damage on my Tiger maple table top. There are a couple of cross grain dents. I don’t want to refinish the whole top because the table is very large. Any tips for maybe swelling the dents back out? Or any tricks at all will be greatly appreciated.

try a damp rag or towel and an iron. Literally iron them out. Keep the rag between the iron and the top.

Should I take off the finish where the dent is ?

I wouldn’t. Its the heat more than the moisture that may draw the dent out.

Didn’t seem to do much so I pierced the finish with an xacto knife and tried the iron again. PRESTO!!! Dent gone. Now to try and duplicate the finish. Seems like a factory sprayed satin poly product. 0000 steel wool polished it to a high lustre. Any suggestions?

You won’t want my advice on matching finishes. I’ll leave that to someone who can spell finish.
