It would be awesome to have a way to post home made plans and drawings for other jocks to see. I dont know if a thread would work. Need to be able to see drawings at a decent size. Any ideas how this could happen? Maybe the web gods are will pick up on this thread and know how to make it happen. I am always coming up with drawings for projects I know Ill never get to. Would love to share them! -- Isaac- Decatur, GA - "Your woodworking....NOT machining parts for NASA!!!" |

I added a new tag to our gateways list: PROJECT PLANS Hopefully members will use the “project plans” tag when posting plans, files, etc. -- ~ Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

Debbie, I’d be happy to have my various plans (chevalet, SS drum sander, V8 workbench, etc) on the gateway tag. Another question. Would it need to be “plans” per se or would we be able to post detailed construction blogs? -- Paul M ..............If God wanted us to have fiberglass boats he would have given us fiberglass trees. http://prmdesigns.com/ |

This is not a bad idea! In fact it is a very good idea. An archive that could be linked to a project instead of each project including the plans; this allows those that do not want/or do not have plans the option to link to the plans. I prefer PDF files as they are typically smaller and almost universal and construction notes can be on the dimensional prints! For Sketchup files the model could be saved and linked to the 3D warehouse. -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

Shipwright, yes, go back through your blogs/projects and add the new tag, project plans As to plans or detailed construction? I guess if you think someone could follow your description and build the project then it would count. (Also remember the LumberJock classes … another route to take for sharing project plans) -- ~ Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

oldnovice is right, PDF’s tend to be a universal format, especially for scanned documents. Is there (or can there be) a way to post a PDF file on the site? -- Isaac- Decatur, GA - "Your woodworking....NOT machining parts for NASA!!!" |

I’d suggest saving it in Google Docs for example and then sharing the link here. -- ~ Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

I use Google Docs, now called Google Drive, and found it easy to use and essentially free until you reach some limit. I have photos, documents, spreadsheets, PDF files, and 3D models stored there. Google allows storing them in their native format or reformated into Google docs format. Files I put there from my PC are accessible from my tablet and my brother who lives in Montana if allow him a share! Google documents done on my PC can be edited on my tablet (Acer) which I cannot do with MS Word documents! -- "I never met a board I didn't like!" |

MsDebbieP, might I suggest another tag for the “Woodworking projects tagged with ‘project plans’ ”? Something like community effort – people could post plans that might be a little rougher knowing that others might expand or polish them up. |

MsDebbieP, ”asking for input, you mean?” Perhaps that would be a good way of saying it. In reading posts through my time here I have noticed a lot of people basically saying how they adapted this post or that post to fit their needs, abilities or tooling. So any plan designated as such is fair game and might take on a life of it’s own, sort of a collaborative effort along the original basic guidelines of the post. Often times I have considered a project and struggled through certain aspects, did some things the hardest way, or had not realized that there was a better way to achieve function and appearance. If this happened in a friendly spirit there might be several modifications of the basic plan which reflect different skill, ability, tooling, and vision (tastes). |
