I’ve been reading the non-shop talk, and there are many folks doing other things besides just woodworking.
I love to woodwork, and improve the shop, but I also am crazy about golf. Exercise, fresh air, camaraderie, laughs, and always a challenge.
I’m 66 and have worked my way from the low 100’s to the low 90’s. I have a medicus swing speed speedometer that attaches to my driver, and according to it I have an 80 MPH clubhead speed.
So I drive about 200-210 yards, which hurts me from getting any lower scores. Any suggestions to better drives?

Or just let us know you’re a golfer besides a wood worker, how often you play and why.

I picked it up about 5 years ago. Im 32 and i swing like the dickens. Id venture to guess swing speed is 100 – 105. I WISH i could slow it down Jim. If it get a hold of it .. look out, but most of the time i leave it open and push everythign right. I started shooting around 100 and im now in the mid/low 90’s like you Jim.

I play, well before the baby, about 2-3 times a month. I love being outside in the fresh air playing sports. Grew up playing baseball every summer for 18 years and fresh cut soft green grass hits a sweet spot for me. Great place to break your buddies stones and laugh when he chucks his clubs. I chipped in on 18 the last time i played from 20 yards, and its that one swing that will keep you coming back.

As far as hitting it longer … maybe a little more wrist hinge at the top? Swing any hybrids or woods?

Yes, Jim…

Tilt your head just right…

Stick your tongue out and have it perfectly positioned on left or right side…

Do NOT have your toes inward at all…

Do NOT have your toes outward at all…

Be sure to bend your knees at just the correct angle…

Try to have your wt. evenly allocated to the middle of your feet…

Be sure your hat’s rim is pointing more toward the hole than away… (DON’T WANT YOUR SWING TO RUN INTO YOUR HAT BRIM)...

If your nose is running, be sure to blow it good first!

Before you really get ready, swing the club head back & forth by just moving your legs & butt around…

Keep your wrist locked just right during the backswing and SNAP it through the BALL at the highest club speed…

Oh, keep your head down and only let the follow-through of your swing move your head so you see where the ball is going…

Be sure the ball is sitting precisely a little forward toward your left foot… (assuming you’re rt. handed)...

I know I’m forgetting a ton of other tips… so, now. the rest it up to you to determine what else to do & how to improve on all of the ones listed above…

... and may you NEVER get frustrated because your ball Hooks or Slices for apparently no reason at all!

Good Luck! LOL

... just kidding, Jim, it has been a very long time since I have swung a club… Couldn’t do it now… LOL

crisstef,

Started more wrist action…......seems better for distance but until I get it down, I have less accuracy. I gave up the fairway woods when I got the Adams hybrids, but I just ordered the 5 and 7 Adams fairway woods to make up for my less than stellar drives.
Oh well, that’s what keeps me going back. My goal for the rest of this year is to break 90! We’ll see.

I shoot in the low 90’s . But no one wants to golf with me,they say I take too long to play one hole(G)
Seriously,I tried the game a couple of times and found it too frustrating. That being said I still like to watch Tiger play even though he appears to have lost his edge.

My golf buddy and I play in three hours as long as there’s no one in front of us….....more time for cocktails afterwards.

Yea, i dont swing any woods either. Ive got a 3 and 5 hybrid. I duck hook the crap put of the 3 but the 5 goes pretty straight. I think if i could cut out the one dumb thing i do each hole id score much better. I always make a bad decision, try n crush one, hit a tree or skull one once a hole. I putt like crap too. Never put any time into it.

If you dont go into golf with any expectations you will be fine, but the moment you want to be good and really care about it, youre in trouble. Itll frustrate the heck out of you.

A buddy of mine, who is good, tells me its all about torque. Winding up your body and the uncoiling it with your hands, arms, eyes, head, hips, feet, and knees all in the right spot at the right time. Easy game.

Golf ball is about the size of the 25 ring on a schuetzen target. We shoot time at 200 yds, so if you can it that far, maybe I could take a pot shot and knock it a little further for you ;-))

I love the folks who say, “it’s not a sport, and it’s not exercise”, or “it doesn’t look difficult”

All I say is “try it sometime”

Topa,
What the hell is a schuetzen target???
And, by the way, all my strokes are “pot shots” :-)

Golf…….Ba

throw 200 bucks at a “Charitable Cause”

Noble yes

in hindsight, the study and human experience at the game has taught me that winning would be easier trying to stuff a basketball down a toilet which in the end, would be a less expensive venture but the thrill of trying to get a marble into a thimble is at least worth trying

: ))

Moron,
You’re probably right about the $200.00
As far as a gentleman’s game, I have the record for throwing clubs into water hazards. (Not kidding)
