Has he gone totally “pay to play”?
I haven’t seen anything new on the favorites site for quite some time.
Not complainin’, just wonderin’.
Is there a different site?

some one emailed me this,

Well to be very honest its simply a time thing, I havent done a You tube since the pie safe,( year or so) I just havent had the time, what most don’t know is we are a working shop, meaning we make our living primarly on doing client pieces, and we do have our pay for view show, and it has grown alot, and demands alot of time, based on the complexity of the projects we do, in addition we do alot of classes, and average week for me is 60 to 80 hours, just no time, but I am very thankful to have the work, beats the alternative :)

I am assuming ( not a good thing) , that you have checked out our site and You Tube, we have alot of Videos on there, that are free, Just google Charles Neil , if you havent, we have alot of stuff out there,

I do have to say this however, the ocean of stuff on the internet and any time we do something, it requires a lot of debate , and having to deal with the keyboard experts, ( some are good), who havent a clue , but dont know it, that takes the time. Its a case of ” Is the Battle Worth the Prize” , again there is alot of good info , but there is alot of really bad advice, and then you have to type alot , and so forth, which I just dont have the time to do , hope you understand ,

I had to edit to add this, and I was reluctant to do so, but its the truth, alot of folks like to pay for a Volkswagen , but they expect a Mercedes, I Have no issue with conservitive, but ” cheap” , buys exactly what it says !

Having know Charles for a number of years I know he is a helpful ,giving down to earth guy that helps tons of people whether they are his customers or not,so I think the “pay for Play” comment is unfair. Charles has sent a complete set of free videos to schools(thousands of dollars worth of videos), he has got on line and helped folks in need (one of them my son) has had several pieces of furniture he has donated for causes like Wounded Warriors. Charles is a kind giving person ,he is entitled to get some return on the hours and hours of work he puts into his videos. After all Charles has about 40 free videos on you tube now. Do think it’s right to ask for more free bees from some one who has gone above and beyond to help people learn this great thing we call woodworking ?

I agree Jim. Charles always has and still does go way above and beyond to help all who asks. So Bill the answer is no. He is not totally” pay to play” he has a free forum where you can post questions. He also has a pay site, Mastering WoodWorking with Charles Neil. If there is ever any question of value you need to look at the completed projects section. He even offered his pay site for free trail offer just very recently. I guess you missed it. Hope this clears up your question.

Funny… I didn’t perceive the “pay for play” comment as a slam of CN…. just a short, direct (if not a little terse) way to ask a specific question….

Love the You Tube videos… Having lived in the south during my navy years, I love CN’s southern mannerisms and way of putting things…

I have a pretty decent collection of Charles Neil’s DVD’s, and am a Mastering Woodworking subscriber. I have always felt that I got good value for every dollar I have spent with Charles.

I have never worked for nothing … I don’t expect Charles Neil to, either.

Bad choice of words on my part. I CERTAINLY meant no disrespect. He’s been on my favs list for quite some time, and I haven’t seen anything new posted. I did hear about a subscription recently.

I took no disrespect at all, so no issue, my point was that if and when we put videos up, we have to field alot of comments and questions, and all the other stuff, and it just takes more time than we have, but that is not to say we wont, we have actually been pondering another video, just have not decided on the subject matter, but it may be a while , always glad to help and will do so anywhere I can, no ruffled feathers here, so lets just do some woodwork, no worries

I also owm a bunch of Charles’ videos and am also a member of his Mastering Woodworking site. All I can say is that my return on investment has been tremendous. Charles is an excellent teacher and goes above and beyond to answer ANY questions you might have. Like others have said he did just have a free trial period for chis site. I have learned alot from all the forums I am a member of, but have learned the most from Charles. Thanks again for all you do for us.
