Topic tags/keywords: plane 4-12 user identification tool question walnut

Can you tell me something about this 4-1/2 hand plane? It isn’t in that bad of a shape. It should clean up just fine and should become a descent user. I believe the knob and tote might be walnut but I am more likely to be wrong at this.

The back of the lever cap and bottom of the frog has “2 3/8” casting mark on it.
The plane bed is marked “R 4 1/2”.
The blade is marked, but I really can’t make out what it says.
There is no other marking.

Is there any chance the “R” is for Rockwell, Record…..................?

Thanks for any information given.

If the EBAY post is correct. My 4-1/2 is a Rockford plane The ad has the same identification “R ” and size.
After a bit of cleaning and with a magnify glass, my plane has a Lakeside blade on it.

Can anyone confirm that my plane is made by Rockford?
