We had a huge storm about a week ago with straight line winds of up to 95 miles per hour. There are trees down all over the place. I hate seeing these trees turned into wood chips or firewood. If I knew of an owner of a portable sawmill I’d try to salvage some of the trees. In the park close to where I work there are at least five large trees worth turning into lumber.

If anyone knows of an owner of a protable sawmill in the eastern Iowa/western Illinois area please send me a personal message.

Hello Owen;
I’m sorry I’m not down your way, but again I’m curious….what do you estimate the width of those logs at? I don’t do traditional lumber as I go after wide ‘live edge’ slabs with a chainsaw mill….60’’ chain bar.

Next question if I may and, since I’m a fan of the Lord of Rings series….just those books, not online; whats your opinion of Glamdring and what role player do you play?

Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank

Frank,

It’s been awhile since I’ve read the books but I loved every one in the original storyline. I’ve tried to read some of the others such as the Silmarillion, (sp?), and have been unable to get into them. What is Glamdring? Is that a character from the original series? Is it another online game?

Hello Owen;

....so sorry about being slow in getting back to you on this.

Glamdring was the ‘sword’ carried and used by Gandalf after he found it in the Trollshaws, after coming to the rescue of Bilbo Baggins and the other dwarfs who were also trapped in the troll cave. When the company reached Rivendell, Elrond identified Glamdring also as Foe-Hammer, (called Beater by the Orcs) from the runes that are engraved on the weapons jeweled hilt. One of the special properties of Glamdring is that it glows with blueness of light in the presence or when Orcs are around….and this part of the explanation comes from J. R. R. Tolkien’s story; The Hobbit.

Of other interest is that Glamdring was first forged in Gondolin, by master elves and that it also belonged to King Turgon of Gondolin….and this was before the fall of Gondolin in the First Age. By the time Gandalf acquired Glamdring, we are now into the Third Age as such.

It has never been so stated by J.R.R.Tolkien, but then it is assumed that Gandalf also took Gamdring with him when he went off to the Undying Lands, after his mission to Middle Earth was completed.

Hope this helps some in the understanding of Glamdring….

Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank
