This weekend I bought an interesting plane at a garage sale for 25 cents:

Is it worth anything?

Looks cool. Does it work?

There is one that looks like it listed on Ebay as
Rare Paul Hamler 4 1/2 inch Ebony & Ox Bone SANDUSKY Center Wheel Plow Plane
with a buy it now price of $3500

I’d say you got a real buy, but you might not want to use it since it might decrease it’s value!

You didn’t really pay .25 cents for that, did you Brett?
You had me going for a second though…

Hopefully the rolling-on-the-floor-laughing icon gave it away.

By the way, that plane is a picture of the Sandusky Tool Co. 1876 ebony and ivory center-wheel plow plane that sold at auction several years ago for <gulp> $114,400.

I only wish I had bought it for 25 cents.

I’d use it…

Granted, the chances are high that I’ll never own something like that, so it would be owned by someone else… but still ;-)

Dude. That plane sold for a little more than my house. I can appreciate old tools, and I can barely understand why one would want to collect them rather than use them, but damn.

Ok … Brett, y’know, I kept hearing a persistent rumour of an elderly cabinet maker, a widower, who lived alone and spent his days in his vintage workshop, among an amazingly complete collection of Stanley tools, and a hoard of ancient woodworking equipment and choice exotic lumber he inherited from his grandfather decades ago. The sad fact is, he died in his shop, and his body wasn’t discovered for six months. The executor of the estate said he cannot enter the workshop due to the horrific smell, which has permeated all of the tools and lumber. He said somebody could buy the whole works for $100. Many have attempted to take him up on his offer, but they all walked away because the smell won’t go away. I could tell you where it is, but….
