Topic tags/keywords: question purpleheart

One of my local hardwood suppliers has Purpleheart on sale for $6 a board ft. I was thinking of picking up a stick just to have some on hand, it is 5/4 and various widths most boards are about 8ft long. Is this a good deal?

Hi sIKE;

I called my hardwood supplier:

His quote: 4/4” @ 6.00 pbf

8/4” @ 7.00 pbf

They don’t stock 5/4”

Hope this helps.

Lee

Cool, just out of curiosity, who is your local hardwood supplier?

I live up in Allen.

$6-something BF was what I paid for the 8/4 I used for trimming out my workbench. Seems pretty cheap when you consider it’s coming from a continent away and a lot of domestic hardwoods are the same rough price or more.

LoneRider,

Brazos Forest Products is the one with the Purpleheart. The other one here in town is Fine Lumber and Plywood. Neither are that cheap in my opinion but have a very large supply of hardwoods.

That’s a good price. The store in my area sells it for $7.20/bf 4/4 and 8/4.

I just got about 8 ft. of 8/4 for $6.60/bf on sale at Rockler, so it looks like a pretty good deal to me too!
