Hello Jocks, Wondering if you could help me with a problem. I’ve been asked to put some shelves into an existing canoe that’s been cut in half for decorative purposes. Now how do I go about cutting this shelf to fit properly around the inside curve of the canoe. I hope you know what I’m talking about and perhaps you’ve seen these canoe-shelves before; they seem to be all over now. Picture a canoe cut in half across it’s width with that cut portion placed upon the floor so that it looks as though the other half could be going into the floor. Anyway, hope that helps. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Make a card board or masonite template.

Making the template is the trick but it’s not hard. Make yourself a tick stick and use it to get the shape of the canoe at the point of the shelf. This is a common think to do when fitting bulkheads in boats which is what you are doing. Take a look at this link for a quick explanation.
